Hello, and welcome to Sunday's Best - A Celebration of Music!
Music has the power to intertwine with life's twists and turns to make every moment more meaningful. Alongside all my favorite memories is a song. Growing up, I was fascinated with my parents' music. I'd spend hours choreographing dances with my Beanie Babies to Little Feat, and attempting to play The Beatles' "Helter Skelter" on my flute. (It didn't turn out well).
In middle school, I gained an appreciation for modern artists. "Army" by Ben Folds, and "Welcome to Paradise" by Green Day accompanied my runs as I rambled my way through early teen angst.
With high school came Vampire Weekend's "Diplomat's Son," and for the first time, I thought it might be okay for me to be gay, even in my rural Wisconsin town.
By the end of college, I realized that all my most potent memories involved music. From sitting with close friends in a candlelit room, awaiting the release of Daft Punk's "Random Access Memories" to my mind-cleansing, uplifting weekends at Camp Floggnaw, music enhanced every meaningful place in my life.
That realization sparked "Sunday's Best." Every week, artists are creating beautiful pieces of music, and if I can spread that beauty a little bit, I'm happy. Sharing music is sharing the possibility of a lifelong memory. So let's share!
